Helford River Junior Regatta

1st July 2017

This regatta is aimed at younger, less experienced sailors to give racing a go. The main focus is on the experience of sailing with a purpose and an introduction to different aspects of racing such as start lines, a good beat and mark rounding. Sailing in Optimists, RS Teras and Laser Picos this regatta is great for sailors at RYA level 2 and above.

Chamberlain Regatta

22nd July 2017

Aimed at the more experienced, competitive sailors, this regatta will push you to get the best speed from your boat and will test your concentration and boat handling skills. Open sailors up to 16 years old in any boat with a PY of 1080 or above.

Youth Training Sessions

This year our youth training sessions will be moved to Friday evenings to run alongside Helford River Sailing Club’s Junior Sailing outing. This move will be beneficial for both the trust and the club as instructor and safety provision can be shared and it will also be beneficial for the participants as there will be a much clearer route of progression into club racing and other sailing activities.

The course will run for 11 weeks commencing on Friday 5th May. There will be no session on 2nd June as it is Half-Term. Collection from the Ferryboat Beach is at 1745 or HRSC at 1800. The session will finish at 2000.

There will be two distinct groups with different emphasis and objectives:

Group A

will be for those younger sailors who may have participated in our youth regattas last year but are very new to racing and advanced sailing. This group will look at building on the racing skills already gained as well as some content from the RYA Youth Stage 3 and 4 Syllabi.

Group B

will be for those older sailors who have already participated in youth training in previous years and who want to continue to build on their sailing experience. This group will focus on the advanced modules of the RYA National Sailing Scheme such as Seamanship Skills, Sailing with Spinnakers, Performance Sailing as well as the option to start training for Assistant Instructor qualifications.

For these sessions we ask for a minimum donation of £100 per sailor for the 11 week course to cover our costs. Anything you can afford to donate in addition will go towards our work with the local primary schools and will be very gratefully received.

After booking, please ensure the sailor has read and agreed to the Youth Sailing Contract which can be found on the right of this page. This is an agreement that safety and behaviour guidelines will be followed at all times whilst participating in youth training.
