Golf at Budock Vean

Twelve teams of four golfers competed in the HRCST golf day at Budock Vean Hotel on Friday 16th September.  Charles Richardson, co-chairman of HRCST, was delighted that the event raised over £2,000 for the Children's Sailing Trust.

The Longest Drive competition, sponsored by Nova Construction, was won by Piran Trezise and the Ladies Longest Drive was won by Ann Pollard.  The Nearest the Pin competition, sponsored by RTP Surveyors, was won by Roger Mildren.

Strong, gusting winds made the course challenging, even for the best golfers, but the Texas Scramble format led as usual to some excellent, low scores.  The winning team was Roger Mildren, Alan Engall, Tim Goddard and Chris Ramsden.

Giles Williams

Giles Williams, who was an enthusiastic supporter of the Helford River Children's Sailing Trust, died unexpectedly on September 9th.

Giles was a partner at KPMG in London. Their chairman described him as “one of the world’s leading experts on financial services regulation” and “the ‘go to’ adviser for the major financial institutions, regulators and governments”. He was also a born and bred Cornishman who loved this part of the county and was committed to making a difference here.

Many people will have seen KPMG in bold letters on one of our boats, as it was donated by Giles and his partners.

Giles will be much missed by all his many friends around the Helford River.

Giles' family have asked that any donations in his memory are made to the HRCST.
