Chief Instructor Vacancy in South West Cornwall

Permanent Role with pay range from £25-28k

About the Trust

HRCST is a youth charity based in Cornwall that offers access to sailing and water activities to children aged 8-14, as well as children and young adults with additional needs. We are passionate about using these activities as a tool to develop confidence, competence and resilience enabling participants to reach their full potential in life. One of our key beliefs is that there should be no financial barrier to any of our activities. We currently offer activities to over 600 participants per year by way of a term time schools programme and holiday courses. We operate in the very attractive sailing waters of the Helford River with a large working fleet of Optimists, Picos, Fevas, Kayaks and 8 Safety Boats. The Trust is a growing organisation and is currently developing a new additional water sports centre at Trevassack Lake on the Lizard. This will offer new opportunities for post holders as the facility comes on stream.

About the Role

To oversee and manage the delivery of the HRCST Water Sports Activity Programme. This means having responsibility for the standards of training, equipment maintenance and wellbeing of students and instructors in line with RYA, BC and AALA recognition. To have responsibility for staff training, selection, mentoring, compliance with SOP’S, administration of activities and on the water instructions and coaching. This is a permanent role commencing in February 2020, to help to select and prepare the Team and equipment ready for the 2020 season starting in April.

There is a range of contractual benefits with the role including pension, Holiday pay and training allowance.

Qualifications and experience

We are looking for an experienced Chief Instructor who has successfully delivered a Youth Sailing Scheme. However we would also welcome applications from experienced Senior Instructors with a proven track record including taking on additional responsibilities. It would be advantageous for the candidate to have a Powerboat instructor Qualification and other relevant Qualifications.

Seasonal roles from Late March/April to October 2020

Rates of pay are SI £21K -£22K (FTE) and DI £19-£20K (FTE) dependant on experience and qualifications.

About the Roles

Senior Instructor and Dinghy Instructor

Working under the direction of the Chief Instructor, Senior Instructors and Dinghy Instructors are responsible for the delivery of high quality water sports sessions to a wide variety of groups and individuals.

Senior Instructors oversee DI’s and volunteers and take day to day responsibility for management of sessions and equipment.

A full induction, familiarisation and training package will be offered for all Instructor roles and this will be run from 23rd March to 17th April.

Instructors are provided with personal equipment including drysuit, wetsuit boots, gloves, sunglasses and buoyancy aid.

Qualifications and experience

We are looking for experienced RYA qualified Senior Instructors and Dinghy Instructors who ideally will have worked in similar roles successfully delivering a Youth Sailing Scheme for at least a year. A First Aid qualification is essential and other water sport qualifications are desirable.
