Learning to Sail

The Helford River Children’s Sailing Trust is an RYA training center and an RYA On-Board member. Training is run by our team of dedicated RYA instructors. For beginners the Trust has a fleet of 24 Optimists and 6 Regatta rowing dinghies. More experienced sailors graduate to larger sailing dinghies.

Children learn quickly and take responsibility for their own safety as well as the safety and well-being of others. We serve local primary schools, as well as schools for children with special needs, and all at no charge to the children or their families, so that all can sail.

Even if you’re not at one of our schools you can still learn to row and sail with the Trust. If you’re between 8 and 14 with an adventurous streak why not join one of our popular holiday courses. These have proven to be a great way for visiting and local children to get to know each other and enjoy a challenging and rewarding experience. Our team of RYA instructors, safety boat crews and volunteers will ensure that the every session is carefully managed, educational and most importantly fun!

Adults too can take advantage of the opportunities available with the Trust. If you can commit to a least two hours a week as one of our volunteers we’ll teach you to sail and handle a rescue boat. It’s a great chance to get involved in a very worthwhile local activity and to get out on the water and enjoy the beautiful Helford river.
