Expanding Charity Seeks Additional Trustees

Children’s Sailing Charity Seeks Additional Trustees

Helford River Children’s Sailing Trust is a well-established charity in Cornwall providing subsidised sailing and watersports lessons to children who would not otherwise have this opportunity. Its aims are to develop confidence, competence and resilience in young people and to empower them to make positive choices in life. The Trust’s activities also help to develop a respect for the natural environment.

The Trust has operated on the Helford River for more than twenty years, employing highly qualified, professional instructors to teach hundreds of children each year with a large fleet of dinghies and kayaks. Our operations on the river continue to develop and to grow.

The Trust has recently embarked on an exciting new initiative at Trevassack Lake on the Lizard Peninsula, close to the Helford River. Trevassack Lake will be a national centre of excellence for teaching accessible watersports, for all children and young people, enabling those with special needs and disabilities to enjoy similar activities to their peers.  The Trust has so far raised over £3m for the development of a purpose-built Learning Centre and three accessible holiday homes to enable families from all over the country to benefit from the facilities and training at Trevassack Lake.  The site will be operational in Summer 2021.

The Trust would particularly welcome applications from those with experience in any of the following areas: supporting families and children with special needs and disabilities; human resources; legal expertise; operational experience of a charity or grassroots sports organisation; and those active in our local communities.

The role

These are unpaid, volunteer positions.  Trustee board meetings are held quarterly but candidates should anticipate additional sub-committee work and, from time to time, specific project assignments.

It is not necessary to have previous Trustee or board experience as training and guidance will be offered and we welcome applications from all age groups and personal backgrounds.

Please apply in writing with your CV and a covering letter outlining why you would be interested in becoming a Trustee of Helford River Children’s Sailing Trust and the skills and experience you could bring to the role.

For an information pack, please contact: cr.helford@gmail.com.

Deadline for applications:  30 November 2020
